Reconsider Proposition 209 decision, minority students ask federal court

Civil rights lawyers have asked a federal appeals court to reconsider a ruling earlier this month upholding California's voter-approved ban on affirmative action in public programs.
In court papers filed late Monday, attorneys for minority students challenging Proposition 209 asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear the case with an 11-judge panel.
