Nebraska voters approved a constitutional amendment that would ban race- and gender-based affirmative action programs.The amendment, known as Initiative 424, seeks to bar the University of Nebraska from offering minority scholarships. It also would end the City of Omaha's contracting program that pushes a certain percentage of city work to minority - and woman-owned businesses.The Nebraska Supreme Court will likely need to rule in the affirmative action ban's favor before Initiative 424 can become law.
