Linking Inclusion to Incentive Pay
In the economic and technological climate of today, where companies and institutions are facing demands of various stakeholders, the potential loss of employees and an aging workforce, the need to recruit, engage and reward high performing staff continues. Incentive plans have been used by organizations to motivate, recruit, and retain high performing staff. Historically, incentive plans were limited to executives and/or senior management. Over time, organizations benefited from high performing employees by seeing increased profit margins. Over the past decade, as the global markets have challenged U.S. based organizations to think and expand globally, organizations have either added or enhanced their incentive plans to include some form of diversity. The diversity component, which varies according to the company’s mission, can center on the recruitment and retention of diverse staff or focus on increasing staff’s core competencies in the area of diversity and inclusion.

The Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC), a worldwide library services organization headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, is a leader in information technologies and innovative online services. With office locations around the globe, OCLC employees are dedicated to offering premier services and software to help libraries cut costs while keeping pace with the demands of our information-driven society.

This webinar will focus on OCLC’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion by offering incentive pay along with other strategies. Participants will discuss:

Historical Overview – Why an Incentive for Inclusion
Components of the Inclusion Scorecard
Program Management and Support from Senior Leaders
Day-to-Day Program Management
Tools Used for Buy-In
Challenges to Managing an Incentive based program
Success Stories

About the Presenter

Register for the Next AAAA Webinar:"Demystifying Compensation Analysis"
Thursday, March 12, 2009

The passage of the 2009 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and other pending pay equity legislation increases virtually every organization's risk of regulatory and legal challenges to its pay-setting decisions. Consequently, now, more than ever before, employers need to prepare to defend the outcomes of their compensation systems. Labor economists with extensive experience in compensation analysis guide you through the fundamental principles of pay equity analysis using real world illustrations. Drs. Baker, Thornton and Amidon will introduce you to the preliminary methods used by regulatory auditors to identify contractors whose data may show patterns adverse to various demographic groups. You will become familiar with the concept of multiple regression analysis, the most common method of measuring the magnitude and statistical significance level of differences between the pay rates of similarly situated demographic groups. You will learn how to:
structure competent compensation regression analyses, including guidance for the creation of appropriate employee groupings;
measure factors that influence pay;
interpret the results of compensation models;
evaluate the meaningfulness of the model; and
identify employees whose pay rates have a substantial impact on the statistical outcome.
In addition, the labor economists will discuss pay policies and practices that have given rise to pay disparities in university and other settings.

The EEOC, OFCCP and “Systemic Discrimination”: New Enforcement Techniques and How Employers Should Respond

Mickey Silberman
Attorney at Law
Jackson Lewis LLP

For years, the OFCCP has been changing its focus from affirmative action compliance to “systemic discrimination.” That transformation recently was formalized with the OFCCP’s new Active Case Management Directive, published a few weeks ago. And the OFCCP is not alone - the EEOC has greatly increased its focus on systemic discrimination. The EEOC’s Systemic Discrimination Task Force report – published in 2005 and implemented during 2007 and 2008 – already is having a profound impact on the way EEOC investigates discrimination charges and changes the way employers need to respond. This webinar will explain the recent enforcement developments and provide practical, “real world” strategies for responding to those changes.

ANNOUNCING AAAA WEBINAR SERIES "RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF A DIVERSE FACULTY:A MATTER OF EXCELLENCE AND EQUITY"

Join AAAA on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 for the first of a series of webinars on equal opportunity, affirmative action and diversity topics.

"Recruitment and Retention of a Diverse Faculty" will be taught by Jonathan Alger, Vice President and General Counsel, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and former Assistant General Counsel, University of Michigan. Most colleges and universities declare that they are dedicated to diversity as a matter of both quality and equality. Indeed, as reflected in the recent University of Michigan admissions lawsuits at the Law School and undergraduate levels, diversity within the student body is often portrayed as a vital component of a university's educational mission. One of the key questions arising out of these cases is whether, and to what extent, factors such as race, national origin, gender, etc. can be taken into account in the employment context at educational institutions.

The Webinar will address:
* The compelling interest in promoting diversity in recruitment
* Lessons from the Michigan cases
* Criteria for diversity plans
* Recruiting and outreach
* The search process
* Hiring and financial incentives
* Growing your own faculty* And other important issues.

Our Expert Speaker: Jonathan Alger is Vice President and General Counsel at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where he oversees legal affairs for all of the University's campuses in New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark, and Camden. He also teaches an undergraduate honors seminar on higher education law. Before coming to Rutgers, he was Assistant General Counsel at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, Mr. Alger helped coordinate two landmark admissions lawsuits in the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as legal work in areas such as intellectual property, cyberspace law and media rights.

Mr. Alger previously served as counsel for the national office of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in Washington, D.C., and as an attorney-advisor in the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights. He began his professional career in the Labor and Employment Section at the law firm of Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius.Mr. Alger has given hundreds of presentations on higher education law and policy throughout the United States and in Canada, Germany, and the West Indies.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and is a current member of the Board of Advisors for the University of Vermont's annual conference on Legal Issues in Higher Education.

Mr. Alger graduated with Honors from Harvard Law School, and with High Honors in political science and Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College and its External Examinations Program.
